Did you know?
80% of Americans have some level of untreated gum disease.
The American Dental Association suggests going to the dentist once every six months. Many people overlook the importance of going to the dentist every six months. Not only are you there for a general cleaning, but they also look to see if you have any other issues such as gum disease (Gingivitis or Periodontal disease). As the statistic above shows, 80 % of Americans have some level on gum disease. By going to the dentist, they can catch your possible gingivitis (stage before periodontal disease) before it progresses any further. Seemingly harmless gingivitis, if left untreated, can progress to severe Periodontal disease which could result in tooth, tissue, and bone loss. Periodontal disease is also a risk factor for lung and heart disease. Sounds terrible, right? Well, all of that is 99.999% preventable if you would just go see your dentist!

On the milder side, it is also important to see your dentist for a deep cleaning and to check for cavities. 26% of adults have untreated tooth decay, while 1 out of 5 children ages 5-11 have untreated cavities. Also, 1 out of 7 children ages 12-19 have untreated cavities. Parents, your children may have cavities right now. They may not hurt now, but if allowed to progress can completely decay your child’s tooth. When caught early, the dentist can put a sealant or crown on top of the tooth to prevent further decay.

For parents with older children, it’s a good idea to pop by your dentist to check on your child’s wisdom teeth. For teens that have gotten their braces off and whose wisdom teeth have yet to erupt, they may want to get an X-Ray to see if their wisdom teeth erupting will cause their newly straight teeth to shift.
